Even though rubber soled shoes leave the marks, you can rub the marks with your shoes and they will go away.
I use vinegar and water or simple green
Unfortunately, the smell of the vinegar will not go away for a few days, so if you have some money to spare, you might like to buy or rent a steam cleaner.
These work much better than ordinary carpet cleaners, and they really work and don't scratch the floor.
You can mask the smell of vinegar by adding some essential oils. Lavender and lime essential oil are relatively inexpensive and go well with the vinegar (sounds strange, but it's true.)
Also, avoid using any alkaline cleaners, like ammonia, on linoleum. They cause a chemical reaction that can yellow the sealant.
Unfortunately, you might not be able to. Yellowing of linoleum is often caused by chemical reaction between cleaners and surface sealant on the linoleum, having taken place over many years of cleaning. I have also read that linoleum can yellow from a lack of sunlight. You might want to try bleaching it. You can soak old towels in diluted bleach and lay them on the floor for an hour or so and see if it helps. The towels will keep the bleach on the floor so it doesn't just dry up.
To clean a yellowed linoleum floor make a paste with lemon juice and baking soda. Use a stiff brush to apply the paste and then rinse with a damp cloth. Then wash the entire floor with a dish soap and water mixture. To remove any wax build up use ammonia to strip it off. Once the floor is completely dry apply a thin layer of floor wax to protect the linoleum.
== == AS smoke rises, the stains are probably not smoke . Try using a strong mix of hot water and bleach and scrub with a hard brush or a electric floor polisher with brushes.
call a specialist, maybe try bleach, or just keep those things dry after they have been wettened
First you should lay down paper towels or cloth rags to soak up as much of the spill as is possible. Next, swab with a soapy sponge until all oil is lifted from the linoleum surface.
buy a new floor
When attempting to remove the scuff marks from a laminate floor, it is essential you do not make it worse by scratching the floor. A used tennis ball works very well to remove these marks.
I have done this. There is a scuff mark remover at your hardware store in the tile section.AnswerI know that they are easily removed from linoleum by rubbing them with the sole of athletic shoes. Try that.
Try the Magic Eraser. Great for getting scuff marks off base boards; it might work on laminate floor as well. -- Carol Cleanicity, Founder

To remove scuff marks from white leather- use nail polish remover that contains acetone. Dip cotton swap in nail polish remover and rub onto mark.
Mr. Clean Magic Erasers are really like magic for taking off scuff marks. You just wet it and scrub a bit. It won't help if the plastic is scratched though.
Add one cup of white vinegar to a bucket of water. Works best for me! If you have scuff marks, rub the sole of your sneakers on it and it should come off.
I've found that the magic eraser is useful on just about all vinyl surfaces.
A Nintendo Wii with scuff marks on it could sell from $100-$250.
