Lift up on the front of the rear seat; give it a bit of a quick jerk and then lift up, much like a hood or trunk. You can then slide it forward and tilt against the back seats to access the battery. Buckle seat belts prior to reinstalling seat to avoid headaches in lining up the buckles, etc.
