There are 4 U shaped tabs that lock the rear sear in place. To remove the rear seat on a 2002 Toyota prius simply pull up hard on the sides of the rear seat until a popping noise is heard. Then run your fingers between the seat and the carpet until you find the tight spot. Place both hands on either side up jerk up hard until you hear a popping sound. Once all 4 tabs have been popped out of place the seat will swing toward the back of the car. Push the seat belt lockers through the seat and pull it out. You can use a big screwdriver to pry the seat up if physical strength isn't enough.
