Your cherry tree is dying of thirst. Dig around it down around the roots, loosen the soil much like you would your indoor plant when repotting. Really loosen those roots good. Add a lot of new soil and mulch. Water the heck out of it for several days. See, if it perks up. If it doesn't you might have a guarantee on it from the garden store you bought it from and they may replace it up to a year. Good Luck!!!
Wilting is a sign of too little or too much water, the symptoms are the same so inspect the soil around the tree it may be wet on the surface but dry underneath due to poor infiltrtion, or it may be dry on top and soaking wet below due to poor drainage.
the leaves are drying up because theres to much water
3 to 5 months on average. The larger varieties take longer than the smaller ornamental gourds. When the stem changes brown and starts to dry or after the first frost the gourds are done growing. Ornamental = smaller = 90 to 110 days Bottle and bushel = larger = 120 to 150 days Always cut stems cleanly 2 to 3 inches above the gourd to insure proper drying. Never twist gourds off of the vine. The vine can always be removed later after the drying process if needed.
You must have seen potted plants wilting and ultimately drying up if they did not get water even for a few days. Plants need water to get nutrients from the soil to prepare their food. So just imagine the consequences if water is not available to plants.
