An easy way is:
Hold down the mouse button on the Skype icon in the dock. (Or right click on it).
Uncheck "Open at Login" from the menu that pops up.
If you will sign out of your account there will appear a dialog box within which you will find a tick box "Start Skype when my Computer starts". All you need do is untick this box. I must first advise that you are certain of your password if you wish to ever sign in again to that username. If you have lost your password you may still login by taking yet another Skype username (Up to ten usernames/Skype client are possible).
