depending on what pipe is leaking if you are a beginner at doing Plumbing then I would suggest you take apart what pipe is leaking and bring it to a local hardware store and they should help you fix it. If its a water pipe that hooks up to your faucet then turn off the supply stops before removing anything in worse case call a plumber.

You take off whichever pipe it is ( it WOULD have helped if you said whether drain or supply pipe ) , clean the threads and replace it properly. With this lack of relevant information, that's the best answer anyone can give.

temporary? If your going to fix the leak, do it right by finding out whats leaking and then take that part to the hardware store and see if you can buy a new one. Most drain leaks on lav sinks are either the push/pull pop up strainer or the P-trap and its best to replace both if they are old. Most leaks from the domestic water side are either the angle stop (or straight stops) or the connections to the faucet. If you are out of money or living in a apartment and sick of waiting for me/other plumber to fix it and its a drain leak then you can try using 100% silicone and apply to where its leaking but make sure its totally dry and I didn't mention this!

Without some idea what pipes you are talking about and the layout under your particular sink, it's almost impossible to answer your question. Hot is on the left, cold on the right and the drain is routed however it needs to be. Kitchen or bath, it makes a difference.

This depends on where and what is wrong with the drain pipe. it may require a new fitting or just slight maintenance.

Which pipes need wrapping for my house if temperature is below freezing?

Any pipe that is in an unheated part. A very common place is under the kitchen sink either directly under the sink or just under the floor. A gap between the foundation and the house or where the drain may go in the wall. Either place can be lacking in insulation and allow pipes to freeze. Any pipe that is in or against an outside wall should be looked at on an individual basis.
