Best Answer

1. Determine why you procrastinate.

2. See if there is a way to set realistic expectations for whatever project you are on. Also, see if there is a way to make the project less threatening. Do you think that everything is banking on this one thing, or are a few mistakes permissible?

3. Try to take it in small chunks. Even 5 minutes is a start.

4. Read The Now Habit. This is where I got the information and there is a lot more helpful advice in the book.

The best technique to get rid of procrastination, and perhaps the hardest to do, is just to get things done right away. Don't fuss over plans, schedules, the cleanliness of the work area or the volume of the work, and just do what needs to be done. If you can summon enough spirit to start a task immediately once you sit down, you'll be more inspired to work on everything and finish early.

- Step one: Picture yourself getting out your homework assignment in your mind as vividly as you can, five times in a row. This will help motivate you to actually do it instead of just going to another site. Dont skip this step. You shouldn't have to, since its easy. But its important or else you will end up just going to another site and procrastinating more.

- Step two: Go retrieve the homework. Easy as that. Two steps down.

- Step three: Now that you have it in front of you, tell yourself that you will do just 5 math problems, or this one worksheet, or read 10 pages of the novel, etc, etc. Choose a small doable amount. Now picture yourself doing it in your mind vivdly. Again, this is really important. Imagine yourself actually doing it, including the boredom, stress, and other emotions you ill be feeling.

- Step four: Close your laptop or shut off your computer monitor and eliminate all other electronic distractions, promising you will do the small amount of homework before you get back on.

- Step five: Do the homework as if it is classwork that's due in 10 minutes (or whatever amount of time it would take if you were concentrating. The hard part is "getting in the zone" but once you are, it will be easy nd you will be done before you know it.

- Step six: What do you know? You made your goal. You are now free to open

your computer, etc. But In 10-15 minutes make sure you repeat this process with another super small bit of homework.

- Step seven: When in doubt, just do it! Exercise your self control as if your life depended on it! Starting is usually the hardest part! In fact, sometimes once you are doing it you want to just keep going and get it over with! But always give yourself breaks super often or you'll end up getting distracted and wasting more time. Good luck. Try getting your parents involved to give you real punishment reward incentive, or make bets with your friends who will actually hold you to them. Now stop reading this and do it already! Seriously, don't go back to Google and keep procrastinating or this is what will happen in your future!
Start with a schedule. Set one or two things a day that you need to do. Setting a deadline for yourself in writing will make it easier to follow through.
