Easy OFF oven cleaner is very caustic and I have used this to remove tint from computer monitor screens. Just be careful. Wear rubber gloves and keep off the car paint.

Would you take the window tint off your car if it was is illegal?

I would as I would not want to receive a ticket. Also there is a safety hazard with too dark tint especially at night. I never tint darker than what the law allows.

How to remove window tint?

U start off by getting a razor blade with a grip on it and spraying the window constantly with water or windows to make the tint come off easier, that when it's dry it's harder to come off, just remember after tint there's the tint glue that needs to come off to, and that could be a messy job..

What happens if you get a window tint ticket?

It's a fix-it ticket. Just take it off (and replace with lighter, legal tint), get ticket written off by CHP, city police or sheriff. Pay fine...mine was $10...and that's it.

Can you place window tint on top of window tint to make it darker?

It can be done. The manufacturers, however, do not recommend putting film on top of film. The adhesion is not as good as that of film to glass. It would have a much greater chance of peeling off, and tint shops will not warranty this type of tint.

How to Remove Tint from Your Rear Window?

Eventually, rear window tinting becomes old. As it ages, it begins to degenerate, leaving a nasty appearance. At this point, you should remove it. Thankfully, removing window tinting is a very easy process. First, you need to park your car outside on a sunny day. The sun is important because it’s needed to heat your rear window. Secondly, you need to a take a couple of trash bags and cut them into the shape of your rear window. Now cover the outside of the window with water and soap. Apply one trash bag to the window and smooth it out. The next step is to protect everything in your car near that rear window. Do this by covering everything with a tarp. This should include your upholstery, your speakers, and so forth. For the next step, you will need undiluted ammonia. After you have protected everything around the window, take the ammonia and spray it all over the rear window from the inside of your car. Make sure to wear a protective mask while spraying the ammonia. Next, take the second trash bag you cut out in the shape of the car window earlier. Press it against the inside of the window so it sticks. Now let the car sit outside with the rear window facing the sun for an hour. This will deteriorate the adhesive that keeps the tint stuck to the window. After one hour, come back and remove the trash bag. Again spray the rear window with ammonia. You should now be able to easily peel off the tint strip by strip. You should be able to use your finger nails. If you can’t, get under the end of the tint using a razor blade. Be careful not to damage the defroster lines. After all the strips of tint have been removed from the window, the last step is to clean off any remaining adhesive. You can do this by spraying it with more ammonia and rubbing it off with steel wool. Following these simple steps, you’ll find removing that ugly, old tint from your car can be a very easy and quick job to get done.

How much does it cost to have the tint removed from your car?

Probably the same as putting it on. If the windows are factory tinted you cannot get the tint off. If it is the sticker kind you can.
