Before you say anything please think of why you don't think the relationship won't work out: fear of commitment or you just don't love her. If it's fear there is nothing to fear and it's not a marriage, it's going together and you can get out of the relationship anytime you like. If you don't feel the same about her then honesty is the best policy. Tell her you care about her, but only as a friend. All of us have had lost loves and it didn't ruin our lives and I highly doubt it will ruin hers. Good luck Merry Christmas Marcy Breaking up with anyone is a really hard thing to do. The best you can do is be honest and tell her the real reason why your relationship is not going to work out. She at least has the right to know that.
