When you create driving directions in Google Earth it creates a placemark at each turn/step in the route in addition to a path for the entire route. This helps you visualize the route and you may launch into Street View at any way point to really see a given area.
You can click on 'Printable view' link to jump into a web browser with the directions in Google Maps, which you can print more easily.
