What is a relatively new field in which satellite images are used to study the surface of the earth?
As the satellite orbits earth , it's sensors record the energies reflected or emitted by the target area on the surface.
The satellite takes pictures of the earth, and sends the photos down by radio, as a digital data-stream. Maybe kind of like the same way you send pictures to your friend's … cellphone, you suppose ?
