they differ in many ways. obviously their appearances. but besides the obvious, they have different shape blood cells. animals' blood cells are somewhat rectangular and plant cells are round

Animals can move freely on their own but plants cannot.

Plants can make their own food but animals cannot.

They also have different types of cells. Plant cells are somewhat square in shape, more rigid, and produce chlorophyll. Animal cells are more flexible, have a more rounded shape, and don't produce chlorophyll.

An animal cell goes from being a stem cell, unspecialised, to becoming specialised very early in life. Human babies are born with most of it's cells specialised for a particular job. They have differentiated. Some of their genes have been switched on and others have been switched off. This means that liver cells can only produce more liver cells (through Mitosis).

The plant cells produced don't differentiate until they are in their final position in the plant. The differentiation in a plant is not permanent, if a plant cell is moved from one part of a plant to another it can re-differentiate into a completelydifferent cell.

Hope it helps =]

An animal does not produce its own food, nor does it have chlorophyll. They are a heterotrophic kingdom in the Eukarya (multicellular) kingdom.

A plant is an autotrophic multicellular life kingdom within the Eukarya kingdom. Unlike animals, plant cells have cell walls and most produce chlorophyll.

Animal cells differentiate(specialized to do a job) only one, however plant cells can differentiate more than once.

In animals the ability to differentiate is lost at an early stage but there are lots of plants cells that don't lose this ability
