How long did it take to film The Lord of the Rings?
Elijah Wood, (the actor who played Frodo in the films), states in Graham Norton's talk show that it took around 4 years - the part where the actors were involved. Then add to that the time that the script writing, casting and editing and all that stuff took, the whole project probably lasted a decade or something like that. But the literal filming, according to Elijah Wood, took about 4 years.

New Zealand! Or in Scotland!!!
The lord of the rings film was shot in New Zealand.
If you are a fan of the movies, it will take you about a week or two to read one book. If you are not a fan, or you are just getting started with the stories, it will ta…ke you around two to three weeks to understand them, let alone read them.
if you take all 3 movies into the equation..from idea to screen took approximately 8 years total.

Tolkien began writing The Lord of the Rings as a series of sequels to The Hobbit in 1937 and completed the full set of six sequels in 1949. Initially he tried to convince …his publisher to have The Lord of the Rings published as one complete volume to be followed by The Silmarillion in another volume, but his publisher rejected The Silmarillion as they wanted only "hobbit stories" not a "mythology of Middle Earth", which they saw as uninteresting to their readers. For economic reasons The Lord of the Rings was published in three volumes over the course of a year from 29 July 1954 to 20 October 1955.
I'm sure it took JRR Tolkien years of hard work, thinking, brain-storming, calculating, writing, deleting, editing... to create the masterpiece which he finally succeeded in c…ompleting. I think the amount of time it took him to compile the trilogy proves diligence, prudence and a determined spirit on his part; traits which deserve him respect and honor. It should also be remembered that he had a full time job teaching languages at university. And he had a family to take care of as well. The writing of the book under pressure from the publisher is was a sort chore to him and took some of the enjoyment out of it. He was also obsessed with having it all done correctly and having everything fit together properly. There are ten volumes of writing (The History of Middle Earth) that are all of his notes and re-writes of what eventually became The Lord of the Rings and The Simarillion.
Filming began in 1999 and ended in 2001, because they filmed all three movies at once.
