Calling the police lets the victim file a police report to provide for both insurance and legal reasons.
Get StartedIf you are the victim of theft, the first thing you should do is contact the police. The police will request that you visit the police station so that you can be interviewed and an official police report can be prepared.Credit card companies, banks, insurance agencies and other entities that you might be contacting as part of the resolution process will want proof that you have been involved in a theft incident. A completed police report is evidence that you have been the victim of theft. It demonstrates that you are serious about remedying the problem.
If a victim of a simple car accident claims injuries, it is best to talk to your insurance as soon as possible. Your insurance company will then require that the victim's insurance company provides proof of injury. If it is found that the victim is injured, your insurance company will instruct you on the next course of action.
I can speak for the State of Indiana on this one. When two parties are involved in an accident and the TOTAL of damage to BOTH vehicles AND any third party property is $1,000.00 or more a police report is required(by law). A form called an SR-21 is also required in Indiana to be filled out and sent to the BMV within ten days or the drivers licenses of the non reporting party will be suspended. Insurance companies have their own guidelines that you agree to when you sign your policy. The prudent thing to do in any accident is to have a police report done as well as report it to your insuance company. One reason, being the phenomenon of damage increasing after the accident as well as the neck pain that seems to come about after the "victim" has been talking to friends and relatives.
Report this to your insurance agent. Depending on your policy it may be covered under some policy.
You report it to the police. Then with reference to the police report, contact whatever companies there is which have been targeted by the one who stole your identity.
then it turns into a legal matter where the person who didnt have insurance gets sued for losses and medical expenses
According to the police report, the victim did not recognize his assailant.
It is the students responsibility The school officials would be responsible but if they don't report it, a witness or the victim of the hit-and-run should report it.
I dont know how to do it via the internet, i have tried that but i do know if you call the station where the report was filed they will get you the report. they might only charge a couple cents per page.

The settlement that an accident victim may receive depends on the severity of the injuries. Usually it is a cash settlement paid through the insurance company. These can be lump sum payments, or monthly/yearly payments for an extended period of time.
