Normally, snakes kill their prey first by constriction, which usually stops the flow of blood to the brain, but assuming this was unsucessful or if the victim was not struggling and just swallowed, then probably lack of oxygen inside the snake would kill the victim in less than 10 minutes. If oxygen were provided to the human victim, then the stomach acid, depending on the size and breed of snake, would kill the prey probably within 6 - 8 hours by interference with the functioning of vital organs, esp. automatic respiration. Very likely, shock would cause death prior to this. RAA, former zoo worker
It rather depends on which species delivered the bite. Some venomous snakes lack the potency to inflict a fatal bite to a human, while others are so venomous, the victim may only have a few minutes to get help !
For example - The venom of the European adder, though powerful enough to kill a small child, has little effect on an adult (although medical help should always be sought if bitten). Belcher's sea snake on the other hand has venom capable of killing an adult in seconds (although bites are extremely rare due to the fangs delivering the venom being at the back of the mouth).
Two years.
We can only go without food for 6 weeks!
average 1 minute and also depends upon the size of pray.
The length of time a snake can go without food or water is dependent on the breed of snake, the living conditions, as well as the age of the snake. Younger snakes, who need to be fed more often, will starve quicker than an older adult. And snakes do not usually eat as often during the winter months and some can go for several months without any ill effects. Some even up to a year! The water is the most pressing issue here. Reptiles in general can last a several weeks (2-3) but it depends on the temperature and humidity of the said environment. The best idea here is NOT discover how long they last without food or water rather how long they will LIVE when provided with food and water.
