Of the 4 Evangelists who are credited with writing the 4 Gospels, only Matthew and John were Apostles. Mark accompanied Peter in his travels while Luke, an historian and doctor, accompanied Paul.

∙ 8y agoAlthough the New Testament gospels were originally anonymous, two of them were attributed to the apostles Matthew and John later in the second century. However, modern scholars say that none of the gospels could have been written by an eyewitness to the mission of Jesus. For example, it has been shown that Matthew's Gospel contains around 90 per cent of the material in Mark's Gospel, often in exactly the same words in the original Greek language, yet an eyewitness would never need to rely so heavily on the record of an author who was not an eyewitness. So, none of the gospels was really written by any of the apostles of Jesus.
