There is no specifics, no "true" number counted. "Body counts" were entirely faulty. Soldiers would count the number of "bodies" found. Sometimes because of the horrors of war soldiers would recount bodies. This was because commanding officers would make a set goal of enemy bodies to which they were made to kill, usually after a bombing or napalm attack. However, impatient and often traumatized soldiers would also count civilian losses as enemy counts, this also discords the amount of civilian deaths of the war.
Perhaps the greatest effect that the Vietnam War had was the high human life cost. 58,156 people lost their lives during the WA in Vietnamr either during battle or from other causes, such as sickness.
In addition ,75,000 were severely disabled, 23,214 were classified 100% disabled. 5,283 lost limbs, 1,081 sustained multiple amputations or crippling wounds. About 150,000 veterans came home wounded, or amputated, and at least 21,000 were permanently disabled, unable to work for the rest of their lives. Another problem was the massive amount of deaths from the natives. Unreliable "Body Counts" of villagers, natives, and enemies were made after every napalm/bombing, usually soldiers would recount the bodies to have higher numbers of "deaths", due to the pre-set goals made from higher officials. These body counts would happen to topple over millions.
The sheer quantity of the loss of human life and the injured and emotionally traumatized soldiers had a tremendous impact on the spirit of the nation and forced the Americans to come to terms with their morality.
