The urban myth about involuntarily eating Spiders in your sleep it simply that. Myth. No one has ever verified or studied such a thing. Secondly if you have even a small amount of knowledge about bugs, bugs being a term loosely used to classify all types of crawling things you would observe that they generally stay away from the mouths of things that would eat them. Survival instinct basically.

Now that being said the average person has consciously eaten bugs, perhaps not voluntarily mind you but ask any cyclist or motorcyclist about this subject.

It's amazing how bugs can find their way into your mouth when you're travelling at any kind of speed and if you happen to be inhaling at the same time, well, you get the picture.

Anyone that has eaten a vegetable or fruit has almost certainly eaten a bug or parts thereof or larvae. Again not usually consciously but done nonetheless.

Coming to an average number would be an almost indeterminable feat.

Each year, each human digests at least a pound of bugs, because when people cook, a bug or two fall in and die, but the cook doesn't really notice.
