The exact amount varies by application and pan style. Assuming it's completely dry, converter and all, the correct procedure would be to add about 7 quarts before starting, then add fluid with the engine idling till it comes up the the full mark. Total amount needed could be 9-12 quarts.
The type of transmission fluid to use is Dexron III. Capacity is about 8 quarts depending on if the transmission is dry, including the torque converter.
It takes just regular tranny fluid.

The pump does work, but there is very little fluid movement in park.

If it is an automatic it will be a 727.
no you cant as I have found out the re stands to electronic shift that the 727 does not have
any year 727 should bolt to the 401 as the bolt pattern is the same on all 727's.
The Fluid type should be labeled on the dipstick. Depending on what transmission you have in your Jeep, it could be Mercon ATF for AW-4 Transmission or Dexronll ATF for the 727 and 999 Transmission.
