No religion has ever been strong enough to rule over the entire world. (Especially when you consider that "Old Worlders" and "New Worlders" did not even know about each other before 1492 in any meaningful way.) Islam never had control over the entire planet even if it had very strong control over certain regions of the world.
Also the claim that Islam maintained a society with "human rights" is laughable when this is put to the Dhimmi to discuss. While Islamic Society was better for Dhimmi than minorities in other contemporaneous societies, there was systemic inequality, lack of justice, and secondary status. This continues across the Islamic World.
