It is different for different churches. Some pastors, particularly in evangelical churches, aren't required to take any theology at all. Protestant denominations don't necessarily require a certain number of years in a theology classroom, although the ordination process involves a test (often several days long) for which the only reasonable preparation is formal theological training of at least 3 years.
