Well, my "old" Pentax K1000 will take a maximum of 36 images on a roll of 35mm film. A half-frame 35 mm (no longer manufactured) will do 72 to a roll.
My Pentax K10D digital will put a maximum of about 600 on a 4 GB SD card at the highest resolution, and well over 4000 at lowest.
As far as which makes the better images, that's a matter of the brain behind the camera, not the one inside.
