I believe it is 5 quarts if it is a 4 cylinder and 6 if it is a V6. To make 100% sure, park on a level surface, drain the oil, change the filter, and pour in 5 quarts on either engine. Then start the engine and run for 3 minutes. Shut down, wait 30 minutes and check the oil level. Add as necessary to top it off. Now you know for sure.

Hi! i had the same problem with my 2000 2.7L tacoma prerunner. it seems like a common problem with this engine. burned valves and valve guides. i had 8 valves replaced and 6 valve guides. a valve job basically. if you know how to take the engine apart. all you need is to give your engine a valve job. take it to the machine shop with the new parts. and have them machine it to specs. goodluck!
