Generally, architects are either self employed or salaried employees. In either case, most do not receive overtime pay. They are expected to meet project deadlines and get the job done right. Additional compensation for working extra hours and doing a good job is often received as a quarterly or annual bonus. The amount of the salary and bonus is usually based on a combination of the architect's ability and productivity, and on the overall financial health of the firm.
