Apple's own Smart Cover for the iPad is AU$39-$69 (neoprene or leather).
The Smart Cover designed for the new iPad2 is the same size as the original iPad because the two iPads have the same size display. However, the Smart Cover is attached to the iPad 2 by magnets. The iPad 2 has magnets inside and so does the Smart Cover, there are 21 inside the iPad 2 and 10 more in the Smart Cover. However the original iPad has no magnets so there is no way to attach the Smart Cover to the original iPad. Some of the magnets play another role, the Smart Cover can wake and sleep the iPad 2 by opening and closing the cover. This is also done with some of the magnets. I would not try to use the Smart Cover on the iPad, it was not designed for that purpose and would be a poor substitute for a cover better intended for that purpose. Dah•veed Monterrey, Mexico

A smart cover (provided by Apple) is an IPad cover that can pose as a stand, or as a protection for the screen. Another great feature is that when you life the smart cover you IPad turns on, and when you close it the IPad goes to sleep. For more information you can watch the trailer on the Apple website, or search for it on YouTube.
Yes, the new iPad still is usable with the Smart Cover.
The Apple iPad cover is the best. It has amazing durability.
Both the iPad 2 and New iPad (3) use the same smart cover. They are $49.00 for the neoprene ones, and $79.00 for the leather ones in the US.
It will turn on automatically.
No it can't but you can go to ebay.com and get a smart cover with a back for only $14.99 and type in IPad 2 cases
No it is not, You must pay for it!
Yes of course. There is no Problem if you close the Smart Cover while the iPad is switched off!, or is in the process of shutting down. Most people don't even bother powering down their iPad. They just close the smart cover and it goes to sleep.
Yes, apple say that they will bring out a new smart cover which covers the back as well as the front.
There are no electromagnets on the iPad. The permanent magnets are located along the left edge to hold the iPad Smart Cover in place, and a small magnetic switch is located on the right side of the screen to turn the iPad on when the Smart Cover is opened.
