You know the Nutrition Facts on most food items? You know how it says Protein, and says an amount of grams? Then, on the same row that says Protein, there is a percentage. That is the percent of protein you need every day that you are consuming. So if it says 15%, you have eaten 15% of the protein you need that day. And if it says there are 10 grams of protein and that is 50% of your daily protein needs, then you can do the math and realize that must mean you need 20 grams in all to reach 100%.
The recommended daily amount is between 40-70 grams per day, but this varies and the amount you need is in relation to your weight. Here is a formula to calculate your protein needs:
1. Take your weight and pounds
2. Divide it by 2.2 to get your weight in kilograms
3. Multiply that number by .8 (if not active) or 1.8 (if extremely active)
