there is no real answer to this but you shouldn't have a big basket of candy everyday.an average 8 year old shouldmabye once in a while have at least 5 small peices of candy in 1 day, or just just somekind of chocolate bar for one day.

Sugar should not be consumed in diet at all. It has only carbohydrates. Carbohydrates are almost always present in diet and Dietitians do not bother about there absence. After digestion carbohydrates get converted into sugars only. But children like it and you can not prevent them. Other wise sugar may not be consumed in diet. So you bother about proteins and there quality ( First class or second class.) and bioavailability. Vitamins and minerals and essential Fatty acids in diet.
