Why do you lose bone density in space?

astronauts lose bone muscle because they are not used to the gravity conditions in space. They will also lose muscle and need to excersing while in space and also before leaving Earth.

What will happen if astronauts don't exercise in space?

The body is wonderfully good at adapting to what it needs at the moment, and as you don't need much strength in weightlessness, you loselose strength from your muscles and your bones quite fast. Then when you get back to Earth you're weak as a kitten and everything becomes real difficult. By exercising in space you can trick the body not to lose that much strength, which helps you when you get back to Earth.

Which Apollo mission did they lose contact with the spacecraft on the way back to earth?

Apollo 13 did make it back to planet Earth, although it had to maneuver around the moon it still made it back to Earth.

Why are space probes useful?

Space probes can travel out to a far away body, such as a planet or distant moon, and take measurements and images there, much closer compared with earth based observations. The images and other data is then transmitted back to earth. The probe itself just needs power to run, you don't have to provide food and life support system as you do with human space travel. Also, if something goes wrong, you wont lose any lives. The probe does not have to be designed to come back to earth either.

Why did Earth's early atmosphere lose its hydrogen and helium gases?

The mass of the Earth provides insufficient gravitational attraction to prevent these very light gases from escaping into space.

Would you gain or lose weight if you traveled almost as fast as light?

If the earth falls clear out of the sky what is going to happen?

The earth is held in its orbit due to the gravitational effect of the sun. Were the sun to lose its gravity, the earth would fly off into space and quickly freeze.

How do satellites fall back to Earth?

That will happen if they lose movement energy - usually due to atmospheric drag, if they are not high enough above Earth.

How will humans be affected by gravity if you leave earth?

Gravity might have a hold on you or you will grow a couple of inches and lose weight. It depends on how long you are staying in space.

What kind of tests do astronauts take?

Astronauts have to do tests such as the comet, where they go on a short trip into space on a special plane, so they can get used to low gravity. They need to do alot of muscle workouts because they lose so much weight during space they could come back to earth and not be able to stand up because of the gravity

When in space are you weightless?
