You need to remove peripheral equipment and remove the heads.
Then, take the heads to a qualified automotive machine shop to determine if the heads can be salvaged. Often, when a timing belt skips a couple teeth, a piston may do more than just bend a valve, a valve may break and cause damage to the head and piston.
If too much damage has been caused, you may need to replace pistons and/or heads.
You need to tear the engine down before you can know how much damage has occurred.
Replace the bent valves and inspect the pistons & head for damage. Replace and repair as necessary any defective parts.
If they are bent, yes.If they are bent, yes.
yes
Bent valves are very common.
Replace the bent valves with new ones. Several places carry them. Be prepared it is a very in depth job. Be sure to check the pistons to make sure they aren't too damaged from the valves coming into contact with them.
if i remember correctly the 2001 still has an interference engine.....if your timing belt broke you surely pinged some valves.
Replace the timing belt and pray that you dont have bent valves.
Major engine damage like bent valves. Better replace the belt. Trash the head on a 1.8 and expect to pay $2,000
The engine on a Neon is interference, bent valves are likely.
Remove the spark plugs and check the compression in the cylinders, low to no compression will indicate a bent or stuck valve
Bent valvesBent valves
No, but it is recommended. If the belt breaks, valves can get bent.
