Anesthesia does carry some risk. A small percentage of people will not wake up properly but will go into a coma. There are other possible problems as well. Michael Jackson's death was related to the improper use of an anesthetic (which he was foolishly using to help get to sleep). But normally, doctors only use anesthesia when it is necessary.
