Best Answer

You only need one ethernet connection on the laptop for DSL.

If you need to connect to other computers on an ethernet network then you can buy a 4 or 8 port Wireless/Lan router. Plug the Broadband box into the router, laptop into the router. And if you need more connections then you can buy a 4, 8 or 16 port ethernet switch and plug the router into that and then plug the other computers into the switch and there you go.

Can you use an eight year old Tiny Laptop for mobile broadband - or too old?

Well it depends on the laptop. I have a laptop that is about the same age as the one you have(you should put the make/model/specs next time instead of saying its small and eight years old) and it works just fine with broadband. You will need a ethernet port, and usually you will need something about 200Mhz processor, 128Mb of ram(not hard drive space), and windows 98 or better( An Apple computer or a computer with Linux on it with an ethernet port will work too), and like about 50Mb to 100Mb of hard drive space.

Do you have to keep the Ethernet cord connected on a laptop when connected to wireless router?

If the laptop computer has a wireless adapter installed, either internally or externally, and it can communicate over that adapter to the wireless router, it is time to disconnect the Ethernet cable. The computer will only use one network path to the router at a time.

Does cricket broadband work for PS3?

yes it does i have one and trust me it work Strange that the PS3 network says that the USB ports can not be used to connect to the internet and that's how a cricket works. Wonder who got it wrong. Here's the quote: "Also the PlayStation 3 is unable to connect to the Internet through the USB port, it must be connected via an Ethernet cord or via Wi-Fi network. You will not be able to use a USB adaptor or a cell phone USB adaptor with the PlayStation 3." see related link

How A Broadband Router Is Different From A Wireless Router?

A broadband router is similar to a wireless router, except that it lacks the ability to transmit and receive wireless signals. One example of a broadband router can be seen with early cable modems that allowed Internet access only to devices that were directly plugged into the unit with an Ethernet line. The primary purpose of a broadband router is to intercept traffic from the Internet and transmit relevant information packages to a computer or device for processing.

Is it possible to have two Ethernet ports on a laptop?

Yes, it is possible to have two ethernet ports on a laptop. While there is no laptop that I am aware of that comes with two, you can still add a second device. Ethernet adapters come in both PC Card and USB varieties, so assuming you have a free USB port or PC Card slot you can simply plug one in. In this configuration, you can use the onboard network adapter, and the USB/PC Card adapter at the same time.
