Small scale wars, especially when they are carried outside of a country's borders, are good for the economy. The main reason for that is the increased demand for military equipment and supplies, additional jobs created, etc. Remember what a boon was WW II for US economy. Desert Storm's positive effect on economy is of course far less than that of WW II but it still was good.

The US Military was able to combat test the new M-1 Abrams tank, AH-64 Apache Helicopter, the A-SHO Lighting, and A-10 Thunderbolt II (Warthog), and although the F-117 Stealth Fighter/bomber had been used during earlier operations, the F-117 was able to receive a better work out.

No Gulf War has ever effected the US economy. Only the Yom Kipper War (1973) affected the US economy; with the gas crisis of '73/'74 (odd/even license plate car refuelling days). And the beginning of mini trucks and cars (like the Ford Pinto and Chevy Vega models).
