Nobody used or even thought of an atomic bomb for D-Day. D-Day was basically a huge invasion of Allied troops to beat the German Armies in Europe. - The Atomic Bomb came over a year later in Japan ( The opposite side of the world from Europe) and had nothing at all to do with D-Day.- Sounds like someone needs to read their history books !

What is important about the creation of the Atomic Bomb?

Its creation shows how certain people like the Americans took drastic measures in order to protect their soldiers. They had a choice to either invade Japan with their armies, with casualties estimated to be high, or simply drop a bomb on Hiroshima and Nagasaki and have no casualties at all. The atomic bomb helped ensure the Axis powers' defeat by kicking Japan out of the war and isolating Germany.

What was the largest nuclear bomb?

When people talk about nuclear bombs, they are generally in two categories; atomic and thermonuclear. Atomic bombs are like the ones dropped on Japan in 1945.Thermonuclear bombs have never been used in warfare and involve using an atomic bomb to set off an explosion of a thermonuclear bomb, like a hydrogen bomb.IN ADDITION:The Soviet exploded the largest nuclear bomb to date back in 1961. It was a hydrogen bomb which released energy equivalent to 57 megatons of TNT. Compare that to the 15 kilotons of energy released by the first atomic bomb dropped on Hiroshima Japan during WWII ( 3,800 times more energy released). The name of this device was Tsar Bomba, meaning "king of bombs."

Can a bomb shelter save us?

Maybe, but it depends on where you are. When the atomic bomb was dropped in Japan 800;000 people died in an instant. If they were in a bomb shelter they probably wouldn't have lived. The heat would have cooked them like it did in Pompeii. It got so hot in Japan that water boiled instantly and shoes burned off people's feet.
