Census records are taken every ten years, but are available to genealogists 75 years after they were taken. The next American Census data to be released will be the records of 1940. (America started taking a census in 1790, that one recorded little more than the head of household's name and county & state of where they reside. Later censuses gathered more genealogoically useful information.)
Socieal Security records show the identity of the employer and something about the work being performed. There are also Military and pension records; Immigration and indenture records, among other sources of information.
