Did he used to spend more time at home in the past? When did he start spending nights out more?
Does he seem upset or regretful that he can't be at home more? Does he seem interested in his family when he's at the house, or does he keep to himself? Some people have to work overttime or attend classes, but they try to spend as much time as they can with their families.
There is a probability that there are problems if he is preferring to be gone from home. Such behavior could also indicate that the person is having an affair.
