You can always ask him, or you can put him to a test. Some ideas to discover is that you can tell everyone about him telling you that, and see if he denies it. But no one, not even guys play with the "I love you" phrase, if he seemed sincere when he told you that. If he was mean before telling you that, it's a normal thing. If you are not sure if he loves you, you can always blame it on him if you embarass yourself. If you get embarssed, then I think that the guy should share my embarassement in some way. Unless he's a player or a gambler, the best you can do is trust him I think. :)
