The SSI check or any federal check you receive is safe from garnishee by private creditors. The bank account you deposit it in on in which it is automatically deposited can definitely be attached. If an asset is not safe one way, it will be safe to recover from in a dozen other ways.

If they have a valid judgment against you in Oklahoma, absolutely. The Constitution requires states to give "full faith and credit" to the judgments of other states. Your creditor could simply go to a Texas court with a copy of the Oklahoma judgment, and get it enforced.

Can retirement income be garnished by creditors?

Yes, that is true but the bank can go to court and get a judgment against you then call the county sheriff to go to your house and seize your personal assets from your house to satisfy the debt! No. Not directly but according to Carol: http://www.creditmagic.org/garnishment/card-debt.html Social security benefits can only be garnished for recovery of Federal Taxes and alimony and child support obligations but, it cannot be garnished for recovery of credit card or any other types of debt. However the creditor can bring judgment against you to garnish your bank account. If the creditor garnishes your bank account then your account may be debited in full whenever any money gets credited in the account.

SSD and other Social Security benefits are exempt by federal law from garnishment by judgment creditors. The exception is IRS garnishment for tax arrearages and court ordered child support. Private disability benefits such as WIC are generally exempt as well, but state laws determine if they are exempted in total or percentage. Social Security benefits can and are garnished for past due child support. SSI cannot be garnished.

Does pa law allow checking account garnishment?

Yes, it does. A garnishment can occur only where the creditor has obtained a judgment against you in a court of law. After the judgment is entered, the creditor can garnish your bank account if it knows where you bank. There are some exceptions to this, in that bank account that is jointly owned by husband and wife cannot be garnished, unless the judgment is against both spouses. The second exception is where the funds in the account are traceable to Social Security benefits. For more answers to similar questions on PA laws, please visit my website at www.gregartim.com

If a judgment is issued from a county court can taxes be garnished if you do not live or work in that county?

Yes, taxes can be garnished even if you do not live or work in the county where the judgment was issued. The garnishment process is typically based on your social security number or other identifying information, and it allows creditors to collect payments directly from your wages or bank accounts regardless of your physical location.
