If you are talking about the Napoleonic War the US declared war on Great Britain and invaded Canada in 1812. It was repulsed and in return Detroit was captured. The trade blockade was probably the most damaging to the US by the Royal Navy. The British concentrated their military efforts on Europe not Canada and instructed its minimal forces to keep a defensive strategy. Battles were won and lost on both sides with little territory changing hands and the embarrassment of the burning of Washington by the British. After the end of the War with the French the reasons for the war disappeared with US trade with France no longer an issue and the impress of British Sailors serving on US ships no longer necessary. The US had gained little extra land and lost some, the gains from both sides were reversed back to the previous position pre the war. Neither side really gained from the war it was a stalemate. However some things did emerge, the Indian neutral state proposed by the British never came to pass and Canada emerged with a sense of confidence and nationalism and a myth that the militias had beaten back the Americans alone and therefore didn't need a regular Army.
