Actually, we have all gotten too obsessed with thread count. If your thread count is too high the fabric won't breathe and will be very uncomfortable winter and summer. That being said, Egyptian cotton is generally recognized as being superior to any other, due to the length of the cotton fibers. So, yes, 1000 thread count Egyptian cotton is superior to 600 thread county pima or sateen--as is 600 thread count Egyptian cotton.

The best answer to which is better: 300 thread count Egyptian Cotton vs 600 thread count cotton--is really a personal preference. There is really no right or wrong answer to this question.

Thread Counts are the number of threads, horizontally and vertically, in a square inch of fabric. Usually, the more threads per inch, the better "quality" the fabric would be. However, I believe that thread count is a personal preference.

Egyptian cotton vs cotton. Ostensibly, Egyptian Cotton is a better quality of cotton--manufactured using Extra Long Staple fibers (ELS fibers), which would make it a better cotton fiber than "regular" (referred to as Upland cotton), cotton (which isn't necessarily one with ELS fibers).

There are other cotton fiber designations which also use ELS cotton fiber--Pima Cotton is one.

The question is impossible to answer without knowing much more information. Here are the things that can be answered:

1) Unfortunately, being labeled Egyptian is no guarantee of quality or origin.

2) Supima labeled products have to be sourced from a licensed chain of Supima licensees ensuring that the product is made with 100% Extra-Long Staple (ELS) cotton. Supima is all 100% U.S. grown in the west and southwestern U.S. states of California, Arizona, New Mexico and Texas.

Even if all things are equal, and both products are made with the same single ply yarn, and both are the same type of fabric (ex. percale or sateen, etc.), and they have been created and finished the same way, it would be hard to say which would be better. If the yarn were a better quality and finer yarn the 600 could be better. If the yarn were a coarser count then the 400 could be better.

What are the best Egyptian cotton sheets to purchase?

you are definitely looking for 1000 thread count Egyptian cotton sheets.. 1000 thread count sheets are a high quality sheet IF they are 100% Egyptian cotton and are single ply. Currently sellers can call their sheets Egyptian cotton even if they have only 1% Egyptian cotton... you need to make sure they say 100%. Also sellers can stick two 500 thread count sheets together and call that 1000 thread count. Also, it depends on what you mean by "best." 1000 thread count 100% Egyptian cotton single ply sheets will be extremely durable and will last for years, but they will not necessarily be the softest you can get. The fibers are too close together for them to relax. For SOFT sheets, 300-500 TC is probably better.

Is microfiber in bed linen the same as 600 thread cotton?

No. Microfiber thread count cannot be compared to the thread count in cotton. A 1500 thread count bed sheet of Microfiber might not be half as heavy in weight or thick enough as a 600 thread count cotton sheet, but it will be far softer than a cotton 600 count. It is similar to comparing apples and oranges. Microfiber has a thread count of it's own and tends to remain thinner, although it gets softer, with higher thread counts. Cotton on the other hand, tends to get thicker and heavier as the thread count goes higher, so a 1500 count sheet in cotton might weigh like a blanket.

"Poly cotton" is a term for a blend of polyester and cotton. The physical properties depend on both the ratio of polyester to cotton and on the particular polyester used. A standard poly cotton fabric would have 65% Polyester 35% cotton, with a 68 pique thread count However a 50% polyester 50% Cotton is also normal this starts to go in percale finish, and a higher thread count, the higher the thread count and cotton content the better the fabric finish

What does the thread count have to do with Egyptian sheets?

What is the thread count of high quality blankets?

There are bed sheets with a thread count of 800 to 1,200, and they are pretty expensive and luxurious. These sheets are usually made of fine cottons, especially Egyptian. The Nile Valley has a particularly good cotton, and the right environment to consistently produce it. For the money, a 600 thread count is a pretty good value. The average run-of-the-mill novelty sheet and the classic bed sheet is between 250 and 300 thread count. It begins to feel beter on the skin after many a washings and gets just right before you wear it out and rip it up for bandaging material.
