Judging from this cycle I am unsure as to whether or no hoki is haram or not. My predictions on this is that if they are caught while their scales have not shed then they must be halal as narrated by Imam Ali a.s. As most hoki is filleted and crumbed, knowing whether or not the fish had scales or not is almost impossible to tell so not knowing is a form of shak (doubt) which makes the fish haram and therefore unable to be eaten. Unless the whole hoki fish is seen with its scales intact it is halal and may be consumed due to the fact that it is a fish with scales and has been permissed to be eaten by Imam Ali a.s. If however you see it with no scales it is haram. Similarly, it is haram if you are unaware as to whether or not it has had its scales before being filleted as it is a form of shak.
