It is basically diurnal. But depending on circumstances, it can sleep for up to 19 hours at a time, or it can sometimes stay awake for over 3 days at a time. Since it doesn't hunt other animals for food but eats what it finds on the sea floor - ranging from shell fish to sea cucumbers - it can basically wake up and forage any time it wants and it does not have to adapt its waking and sleeping periods to the habits of its prey: it is there all the time.
