first, remove the coil wire from distributor, but not the coil. Pull # 1 plug, (drivers side front of engine) and roll over engine. feel for the air blowing out of cylinder. (it will push your finger off the hole. Look at the timing tab on the timing cover and roll engine over to 0 deg. on tab. This is TDC or top dead center of #1 cylinder. Remove dist. cap and see what post on the dist. cap the metal pin on the rotor points to. (generally points toward #1 cylinder, but not always.) (rotor being the top part under the dist. cap) then figure out the firing order in a CLOCKWISE rotation around the cap.

It is back by the distributor, were the distributor shaft goes into the intake. About 3 inches behind it. It's about 3 inches long and has an electrical connector on the end of it.

Yes, it will work. If the 454 was a tall deck design, you'd need to shim the distributor up .400" to mate with the 350 oil pump shaft.

The location of number one cylinder depends on the manufacturer of the engine. For example, a Ford 302 and a Chevrolet 350 have number one cylinders on opposite sides.
