The most famous artists of the decades were Elvis and The Beatles. The fifties came in with big bands still popular, as well as Doris Day and Ella Fitzgerald; Frank Sinatra was as popular as ever and Nat King Cole and Perry Como were on top in the fifties and sixties. Johnny Cash and Patsy Cline brought country to the mainstream. Rock and roll ruled with Buddy Holly, the Everly Brothers, Fats Domino, Jerry Lee Lewis, and Little Richard, then Motown was born in 1960. The sixties transitioned with Ray Charles, the Supremes, and 'Little' Stevie Wonder, to The Beach Boys and folk music featuring Peter, Paul, and Mary, Bob Dylan, and Joan Baez. Then came The Rolling Stones, The Byrds, Led Zeppelin, Cream and Jefferson Airplane; Roy Orbison and Simon and Garfunkel.

I've left out dozens of favorites so feel free to add yours.
