Best Answer

Propane is one of the components of natural gas, and is obtained by separating it out. Propane can be liquefied easily and hence transported by road to remote places, but if piped natural gas is available this is a better bet for domestic use.

Is propane or natural gas more cost effective?

In examining the costs of natural gas vs. propane, the rates of local energy utilities and propane companies vary and will need to be taken into account for correct comparison. But to get the cost comparison between the two fuels, you must compare the cost of the energy value which can be obtained through local propane companies and utility companies. While utility companies provide price per cubic foot, propane companies provide price per gallon. Natural gas availability will usually determine whether or not propane can be used because many municipalities will require the use of natural gas if a business or residence is within a certain distance of a natural gas main line.

Gas vs electric in homes?

Gas definetly. When there's a black out the gas will still work and if you have in a cooker it it doesn't cause any inconviniance. Natural gas is also Eco friendly even though they have renewable sources that provide electricity they majority is made by oil etc.

How far can a tank of propane go in your Ford Contour?

If it's a V6 Contour, then you should be able to haul the tank as far as the gas in your gas tank will carry you, about 275-350 mile. The problem is that in most states, it is illegal to transport compressed fuel tanks inside an automobile, now, not many people follow this law, but it had to be said. As to the obvious question of how long can a Ford Contour run on a tank of propane, using the propane as the fuel, this depends on many variables. Such as; Engine style (I4 vs V6) Transmission (Auto vs Manual) Terrain Tank size (how many cubic feet.) How long if at will the engine last running a fuel it was not meant to burn. Without this info, and 3-6 months of engineering, you can't hope to get real numbers.

What's lighter nitrogen or natural gas?

Technically, atomic nitrogen has less mass than a molecule of methane (CH4 = natural gas) with the former having a mass of 14 and the latter a mass of 16.04. However, in nature, nitrogen exists in its molecular form consisting of two nitrogen atoms. Thus, molecular nitrogen has a molecular weight of 28 vs. 16.04 for methane, making a molecule of atmospheric nitrogen heavier than one of methane. This translates into a density difference as follows: N2 density = 1.251 g/L at STP (standard temperature and pressure) CH4 density = 0.717 g/L at STP Final note: "Natural Gas" is not actually 100% methane. It has a variable composition consisting of 70-90% methane, 5-15% ethane (C2H6) and trace amounts of propane, butane, and other gases.

Does propane need smaller spark plug gap?

No, propane does not require a smaller spark plug gap. The spark plug gap should be set based on the manufacturer's recommendations for the specific engine, regardless of the fuel being used. It is important to follow the spark plug gap specified for the engine to ensure proper combustion and performance.

What are the pros and cons of using natural gas vs oil in the home?

Constant fuel supply connected to the home = pro Natural Gas burns cleaner, less critical need for annual service = pro Natural Gas burners are quieter than oil burners = pro No fuel tank = pro No fuel filter = pro It doesn`t often happen but NG can explode and level your house = con

Which has a higher BTU rating natural gas or oil?

Oil has the higher BTU rating Depends. If it is Liquified Nat. Gas then it has the higher rating.

How much does it cost to heat a 3500 sq ft home gas vs oil?

Natural gas is a much more efficient method of heating a house. Furthermore, heating oil is more expensive, and you must purchase it in bulk.

What are pros and cons of heating with propane gas?

Depending where you live it may be cheaper. Depending on the type of furnace you have, if the power goes out you still have some heat & light. Both (gas & electricty) have risks of fire. Gas fire places vs wood burning fireplaces, saves trees, don't have the labor or cost of obtaing fuel, don't have to clean the ashes in the fireplace daily, less pollution.
