If it had a carburetor , it wouldn't be hard to replace - it's fuel injected
loosen the serpretine belt tension and remove the two bolt that hold the alternator
The regulator is part of the engine computer on a 1996 Jeep. It is not in the alternator.
Replace the alternator. Utilize a Hane's Manual.
loosen the two bolts(one at the top the other near botttom) and move from side to side
