point the arrow away from res. then when your bike starts to sputter turn it toward res and it will make it to a gas station. reserve amounts of gas vary greatly so it's hard to say how far you can go.
Almost every motorcycle petcock has a main or "ON", reserve or "RES" and off or "OFF" position marked on it. If the markings are not there, check your fuel lines. The main line will begin on a higher point on the gas tank than the reserve. The off position is halfway between the main and reserve positions.
It does not have a reserve switch - it has a sensor in the reserve tank that turns a light on on the dash when you are low on fuel.
The radiator reserve tank is commonly mounted on one of the front fenders. The tank will have a hose connecting it to the radiator.
When you fill it up gas flows to the reserve tank first and then flows into the main tank.
