I say yes, it saved at least an order of magnitude more lives than it cost and shortened the war by more than a year. Also if we had not used them, when the war was over congress would have had hearings on why $2,000,000,000 had been wasted on an advanced weapon that worked and could have won the war but was never used (I'm sure Truman knew this and knew he would be "cooked" in any such hearing).


Some real world tradeoffs are messy.
