A standard form recipe has the following components:

• Name of recipe.
• Complete list of ingredients in order they are used, including sizes, measurements or amounts needed.
• Step by step description of method for combing the recipe.

When writing a standard form recipe, you should follow these rules:

• List ingredients in order in which they are used.
• Measurements given as common fractions. For example, 1/2 cup flour, not 1 handful of flour.
• Spell out the measurements. For example, 2 tablespoons, not 2 T.
• Leave out brand names. For example, 1/2 cup margarine, not 1/2 cup Hilltop Margarine.
• Include correct description of ingredients. For example, 1/2 cup unsalted butter, 8 ounces low-fat sour cream, or 2 tablespoons lite mayonnaise.
• Include important instructions such as 1 can peas, drained. (or undrained), or potatoes, peeled. (or unpeeled)
• Use short, clear sentences.
• Use correct words to describe combining and cooking. For example, fold in nuts, or whip the cream. Don't say "fry the meat" when you mean "sauté" the meat.
• Always include the correct size pan or dish. For exmple, an 8" x 8" oven-proof dish, or a 9" x 13" baking pan. Medium saucepan, 2 quart saucepan, large skillet, etc.
• Don't leave off the correct times and temperatures. For example, 350 degrees F for 30 minutes.
• Include the number of servings the recipe makes, and the serving size. For example, Makes four 1/2 cup servings, or makes 4 8-ounce servings.

Somewhat paradoxically, this term does not have a standard definition! The definition below is based on the UK use of the term. The standard form, also known as the scientific form, is the representation of a number in the form a*10b where b is an integer and a is a real number. If, additionally, 1 ≤ a < 10, then the number is said to be in normalised scientific form. However, scientific form that is not normalised is rarely used. As a result it is usually assumed that a number in scientific form is in normalised scientific form.
