The Cold War is a 'war' the happened between 1948-1991. There were no direct battle between the USSR (Soviet Union) and the USA.
It was mostly a war of ' who is the better superpower', who's got the better technology, who's got more influence in the world (Imperialism), who will get to the moon first and who is more dominant.
USSR and the USA constantly invented and achieved more to try and overtake their opponent achievements.
Hope it helped :)
