The corona is the outermost layer around the sun.

During the regular day, the sun's photosphere (inner layer of its atmosphere) and cromosphere (middle layer of its atmosphere) are brighter than the corona so it can't be seen. People actually shouldn't even be looking at the sun directly to try and see the corona.
